Lets Talk Lightning Lane
In 2024, Disney officially retired the Genie+ system and introduced Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Premier Pass, two new ways to access faster queues for popular attractions. Here’s how each option works and what you need to know before your next visit.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
If you remember the old FastPass system, the Lightning Lane Multi Pass will feel familiar—but with a modern twist. This pass gives you access to the Lightning Lane entrances for a selection of rides and attractions across the four theme parks.
How It Works:
When you purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you’ll choose the park you plan to visit that day.
You’ll then be able to pre-schedule three attractions:
One attraction from Tier One
Two attractions from Tier Two
This tiered system helps spread out demand and ensures that more guests can experience top rides. For example, at Magic Kingdom, a Tier One attraction might be Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, while Tier Two could include favorites like Haunted Mansion or Pirates of the Caribbean. Once you tap into your first attraction you can book another attraction regardless of the tier the ride is in.
Lightning Lane Premier Pass
While the Multi Pass covers many popular rides, some of Disney’s most high-demand attractions require a separate purchase. That’s where the Lightning Lane Premier Pass comes in.
How It Works:
You pay a separate fee per ride for access to the Lightning Lane of a specific attraction.
These passes are not included in the Multi Pass and must be purchased individually.
Attractions currently available through the Premier Pass include:
Tron Lightcycle / Run (Magic Kingdom)
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (EPCOT)
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (Hollywood Studios)
The price for each Premier attraction varies by date and crowd level, so be prepared for some fluctuation.
